Harold David is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in the Blue Mountains on Dharug and Gundungurra Country.

After a long career in photography, David began painting in 2018. His practice now moves between painting, sculpture and works on paper, led by an intuitive process of making, undoing and responding. Images, fragments, words and marks accumulate, disappear and re-emerge as the work finds its own direction.

There is humour in the work, but also unease. Family, Identification, memory, popular culture and the strangeness of contemporary life drift through it without needing to resolve into a single narrative. David describes himself as a “momentist”: more interested in what is happening in the act of making than in arriving with a predetermined outcome.

His work has been exhibited in galleries and prizes across Australia and is held in private collections.
